Manzar - The scene | Handmade Flat Weaves Rugs from Mirzapur
Share
Almost 9 out of 10 carpets made in India are sold abroad. That is what Carpet Export Promotion Council (CEPC) data, reported by PARI, shows. So the best handmade rugs from Mirzapur often end up in homes in New York or London, while many Indian floors stay bare.
Manzar changes that. It is a handwoven wool rug in gold, crimson and olive. It is made at the Woven Legacy workshop in Mirzapur and sold to homes across India. Below, you will see what it is made of, which size fits your room, what it costs and how long it takes.

Why handmade rugs from Mirzapur are special
Mirzapur is part of India's biggest carpet-making area, the Bhadohi-Mirzapur belt. Weavers here have made rugs by hand for centuries. Uttar Pradesh's One District One Product (ODOP) reports trace it back to the 16th century.
In 2010, handmade carpets from nine districts, Mirzapur included, got a GI tag under the Bhadohi name. A GI tag is a government mark that links a product to the place it comes from. So "made in Mirzapur" carries real history. Woven Legacy's workshop is at Katra Bajirao, Mirzapur. See all Woven Legacy rug collections.
One honest note. A GI tag tells you where a rug is made. It does not tell you how good it is. For any rug, ask three things: what is it made of, how heavy is it, and how is it woven rug? The next sections answer that for Manzar.
What does Manzar look like?
Manzar means "the scene". Picture golden diamonds rising from deep red (crimson), with soft olive, mustard and blush colours around them. It looks like a calm landscape, not a loud pattern.
That is why it works as the star of a room. The rug is bold, but the soft colours keep it from feeling heavy. Sit down with your evening chai and it gives your eyes a calm place to rest.
A small tip: the product listing also tags beige and grey. Colours look different on every screen, and again in daylight and lamp light. Ask the Woven Legacy team for close-up photos before you order. Want a calmer palette? The colours can be changed.
What is Manzar made of?
Manzar is 80% New Zealand wool and 20% cotton, at 1400 GSM. GSM means grams per square metre. In simple words, it tells you how much material is packed into the rug. More GSM means a thicker, heavier rug. At 1400 GSM, Manzar is not a light, flimsy rug.
Why this mix? Wool feels soft and warm under your feet and bounces back after you walk on it. Cotton adds strength and helps the rug hold its shape.
Because the weight is known, you can estimate how heavy your rug will be:
| Size (ft) | Area (sq m) | Approx. weight | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4 x 6 | 2.2 | about 3.1 kg | Reading corner, beside the bed |
| 5 x 8 | 3.7 | about 5.2 kg | Small living room, study |
| 6 x 9 | 5.0 | about 7.0 kg | Bedroom, small lounge |
| 8 x 10 | 7.4 | about 10.4 kg | Standard living room |
| 9 x 12 | 10.0 | about 14.0 kg | Large living room |
| 10 x 14 | 13.0 | about 18.2 kg | Big hall, open-plan space |
These are my estimates from the 1400 GSM figure, so treat them as rough. One tip: a rolled-up rug is as long as its widest side. Check your lift, stairs and doorway before delivery day.
Flat weave, dhurrie or pile: what is the difference?
You will see these words on many rug Platforms. A flat weave rug, also called a dhurrie or kilim, has no raised yarn. It is thin, light and often usable on both sides. A pile rug has yarn standing up, so it feels thick and soft.
| Flat weave / dhurrie | Pile rug | |
|---|---|---|
| Feels | Firm and smooth | Soft and cushioned |
| Thickness | Thin, lighter | Thick, heavier |
| Use both sides? | Often yes | No |
| Best for | Layering, dining areas, busy spots | Living rooms, bedrooms |
| Cleaning | Shake out, vacuum | Vacuum, rotate often |
These are general rules, and there are exceptions. The Bhadohi area is well known for cotton dhurries. Manzar's weight shows it is a substantial rug.

What size should you buy?
For most living rooms, an 8 x 10 ft rug is a safe choice. The front legs of your sofa and chairs should sit on the rug. In a bigger room, pick 9 x 12 or 10 x 14 ft so all the legs fit. Manzar comes in six sizes, from 4 x 6 to 10 x 14 ft.
| Space | Size to pick | How to place it |
|---|---|---|
| Reading corner, bedside | 4 x 6 | In front of the chair or beside the bed |
| Small living room, study | 5 x 8 or 6 x 9 | Front legs of seating on the rug |
| Standard living room | 8 x 10 | Front legs on; rug sticks out 6-8 inches past them |
| Large living room | 9 x 12 | All legs on the rug |
| Hall, open plan | 10 x 14 | Marks out the seating area |
Interior size guides from Revival Rugs and HOME Furniture say the same: front legs on the rug, and 8 x 10 or 9 x 12 for most living rooms.
Try this: mark the rug size on your floor with painter's tape for one day. The most common mistake is buying too small, and the rug then looks like a lonely island.

Where to place Manzar
Manzar looks best under the seating area of your living room. It also suits a bedroom or a study where you like a calm mood. Keep the sofa plain and the furniture simple, with warm wood, and let the rug stand out.
Here is what usually goes wrong. People add printed curtains and loud cushions, and everything starts to fight with the rug. Keep the rest of the room quiet. Planning to use it under a dining table? Check the pile height first, so chairs can slide easily.
How much does Manzar cost, and when will it arrive?
Manzar starts at ₹15,600. The final price depends on the size and any changes you ask for. Each rug is made to order, which takes about 60 days. You wait because the rug is woven for you, not picked from a shelf.
When you buy handmade flatwoven rugs online in India, you cannot touch the wool first. You have two options: ask for close-up photos, or visit the Delhi showroom at Naraina Industrial Area Phase 2. Ready to order the Manzar wool rug? Call +91 9236788789.
How to look after a wool rug
- Vacuum once a week, without a rotating brush.
- Blot spills right away. Do not rub, as rubbing pushes the stain in.
- Turn the rug around every six months so wear and sunlight spread evenly.
- Keep it dry in the monsoon and out of long, harsh sun.
- For deep cleaning, call a wool specialist.
Also ask Woven Legacy for its own care tips when you order.
Is Manzar right for you?
A good fit if you want one bold rug that makes the room, you like natural wool, you need a particular size, and you can wait for it.
Think twice if you need a rug this month, your room already has a lot of pattern, or you want something quiet and plain. It also costs more than a machine-made rug.
